Water. Water is in the garden weather we put it there or not. There no life without water. As water is a building block for life. People are drawn to water. What does water offer to the garden?
The Sweetbay Magnolia
The Sweetbay Magnolia, scientifically known as Magnolia virginiana, is a deciduous or semi-evergreen tree or shrub native to the southeastern United States. It belongs to the Magnoliaceae family and is known for its attractive, fragrant flowers and glossy foliage.
The Amazing Beautyberry
Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) is a deciduous shrub found naturally in the southeastern United States. It grows between 3 and 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide, though it’s been known to reach 9 feet tall. It has a moderate to fast growth rate, gaining around 1 to 2 feet per year until it is mature. Beautyberry does not attract pests or diseases.
Possumhaw
Most people when they hear the word “Holly” they think of an the popular evergreen, glossy leaf, large shrub with red berries (Chinese Holly). However, there is a holly that is native to our area that is deciduous, has small leaves that turn yellow and drop in the fall and yes has red berries.
Pink Mulhy Grass Care
Pink muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is not only a beautiful ornamental grass, but it’s also low-maintenance. It doesn’t require much in the way of time and attention to make the most of this showy plant. These plants grow at a moderate rate and are best planted in the spring or in the fall—at least a month before the initial frost is expected.
Horse Chestnut
Shelter in place and learn about a fantastic tree, the Horse Chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum, is a wonderful large shade tree that is not used very often in the South. The Horse Chestnut is a native of the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. The tree is has the same genus, Aesculus, as the native to our area Buckeye (Aesculus glabra).
