Water. Water is in the garden weather we put it there or not. There no life without water. As water is a building block for life. People are drawn to water. What does water offer to the garden?

The Sweetbay Magnolia

The Sweetbay Magnolia, scientifically known as Magnolia virginiana, is a deciduous or semi-evergreen tree or shrub native to the southeastern United States. It belongs to the Magnoliaceae family and is known for its attractive, fragrant flowers and glossy foliage.

The Amazing Beautyberry

Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) is a deciduous shrub found naturally in the southeastern United States. It grows between 3 and 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide, though it’s been known to reach 9 feet tall. It has a moderate to fast growth rate, gaining around 1 to 2 feet per year until it is mature.  Beautyberry does not attract pests or diseases.

Most people when they hear the word “Holly” they think of an the popular evergreen, glossy leaf, large shrub with red berries (Chinese Holly).   However, there is a holly that is native to our area that is deciduous, has small leaves that turn yellow and drop in the fall and yes has red berries.
